After years of fighting in the middle of the Premier League table and barely finishing just above the relegation zone in the 2019/20 season, since David Moyes returned to office as the West Ham coach, he has managed and is recovering to bring the team to levels not seen for years. After the fantastic 2020/21 season last year where the team just missed access to the Champions League, they had qualified for the Europa League for the first time since 2016. So for Moyes's team, in addition to the ambitious goal of trying to enter the 4 spots for access to the next Champions League, West Ham faces an exciting Europa League with the aim of doing something special.

West Ham is increasingly attacking with width and demonstrating a variety of rotations and movements around their influential full-backs. David Moyes' West Ham shows up in most games, especially in the Premier League, with a 4-2-3-1 formation. In this formation, the Scottish coach uses two-leg fullbacks, such as veteran Aaron Cresswell on the left lane and then young Ben Johnson on the right lane. The homegrown right-back Ben Johnson has impressed on both flanks and has proven to be a valuable squad player since Moyes has been managing the Hammers.

The two Centre- backs alternates given the quality of the defenders who are part of the team, where there is the veteran Angelo Ogbonna in the team since summer 2015 and the 25-year-old Issa Diop who arrived 4 seasons ago, and then there are the reinforcements of this season they are doing a great job, like Kurt Zouma who arrived from Chelsea for a whopping € 35m.

In his two-man midfield, you can see the engine of the team, with the now immovable Declan Rice, with his 185cm tall and prodigious physical strength, the young Englishman is a very strong midfielder which allows him to be formidable in conquering the ball and protecting its defense. It is no coincidence that in the current 2021/22 Premier League season, Rice is an outfield player with the most stolen balls in the entire Premier League with 228 steals. Alongside him is Soucek, a formidable player who seems to be getting stronger season after season. Under the hand of David Moyes, the Czech player has made that leap in quality, making him one of the most valuable midfielders in the Premier League.

Moyes’ team registered the Premier League’s sixth-lowest grasp of possession across 2020/21; their stability, organization, and compactness from their mid and low blocks were regardless essential to their ability to both counter and frustrate opponents. Moyes’ team increasingly poses a threat on the counter; between three and four players typically break when regains are made from their mid and low blocks.

Hammers' 4-2-3-1, uses an aggressive press applied in the central territory, and their wide players move infield to support their double pivot. These wide players are the 26-year-old Algerian Saïd Benrahma, whom this season has scored 8 goals and 6 assists overall with the Hammers shirt, and then the current "star" of the team and temporarily injured Jarrod Bowen. These two attacking wings, in addition to the Spanish attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals, are key to David Moyes' game, which relies heavily on the wide play.

Throughout 2021/22, Bowen and Saïd Benrahma moved inside the pitch and got on their strongest feet bringing in many goals and assists. Bowen is having one of the best seasons of his career so far, with 12 goals and 11 assists overall leading him to be the key man in the attack of the Hammers. And then there is the striker represented by the veteran and fourth in the ranking of the top scorers in the history of West Ham, Michail Gregory Antonio with 58 goals in 216 appearances with the Hammers shirt.

Overall, Moyes' team is very organized and plays a football of pressing and counterattack, with many strong and interesting players. After the splendid last season the Hammers do not want to stop, this year the team finds themselves sixth in the Premier League with just 2 points away from Manchester United, and 3 points from Arsenal’s fourth place, who, however, have yet to recover 2 games. The fight becomes tense and fascinating, while their season in the Europa League becomes even more fascinating, having just eliminated the strong Sevilla FC of Lopetegui in the round of 16. Now the path for Moyes' team becomes very interesting, with the fight for the top 4 positions in the Premier League, the Hammers fans dream of winning something important, and why not the Europa League. Now waiting to see who their next opponent for the Europa League quarter-finals will be, the dream continues.
