Willy Kambwala Ndengushi is another of the talents detected by Villarreal CF's scouting department for this season.
Born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, on 25 August 2004, he moved to France when he was just 5 years old, a country he has represented at various levels up to youth.
His football training took place in Les Ulis, Essonne, and he began his career with Elan Chevilly Larue and Les Ulis, before joining the Sochaux academy in 2018.
In 2020 he moved to Manchester, where after a serious injury kept him out of action for several months, he signed a contract with the Red Devils to join the club's academy.
After a somewhat unnoticed spell at Manchester United, playing a total of 10 first team games, on 15 July 2024 he was signed by Villarreal CF and signed a contract until 2029.
Although he has not yet played too minutes for the spanish club, in his playing time he has already shown the qualities that led to his signing. Kambwala is a tall and strong centre-back with a long stride. His physical qualities are so predominant that he is particularly good at individual marking, anticipation and also in aerial duels.
Despite his interesting technical and physical qualities, the french centre-back has much room for improvement in the development of his tactical skills such as the understanding of the game or decision making both with ball and last man situations off the ball... as well as skills related to his error handling, responsibility, leadership and hierarchy. All of them key factors in an elite central defender that, fortunately for Willy, at just 20 years of age, he is in the perfect place to develop.
