Bologna is experiencing the emergence of an outstanding talent in Riccardo Calafiori, a player poised to become a pivotal figure in the team's future achievements. Born on May 19, 2002, in Italy, Calafiori is a multifaceted defender proficient in playing as a center-back or left-back. Standing at 188 cm and favoring his left foot, he brings adaptability and significant contributions to his team.

Riccardo Calafiori began his career as a youth product of Roma, signing his first professional contract on June 16, 2018. Despite a severe knee injury on October 2, 2018, which nearly ended his career, Calafiori made a strong comeback. He debuted professionally and in Serie A on August 1, 2020, in a 3–1 victory against Juventus, where he won a penalty and scored a disallowed goal. The following season, on December 3, 2020, he netted his first professional goal in a UEFA Europa League match against Young Boys.


Calafiori joined Genoa on loan on January 14, 2022. Later, on August 30, 2022, he moved to Basel on a permanent deal, signing a three-year contract and making his league debut on October 9, 2022. Returning to Serie A, he signed with Bologna on August 31, 2023, and flourished under head coach Thiago Motta, becoming one of the league's top performers. On May 20, 2024, he scored his first Serie A goals with a brace in a 3–3 draw against Juventus. His contributions were instrumental in Bologna's qualification for the UEFA Champions League, their first since 1964–65.


On the international stage, Calafiori made his debut for the Italy U21 team on September 3, 2021. He received his first senior team call-up in May 2024 and debuted on June 4, 2024, against Turkey.
