Pablo Barrios Rivas (Madrid, 15 June 2003), one of Atlético de Madrid's youth academy talents, already seems to be a present reality for his club.
The former Escuela Deportiva Moratalaz and Real Madrid academy player, joined Atlético de Madrid in 2017. His first-team debut came on 29 October 2022 in La Liga match against Cádiz F.C., at the age of 19.
After a great performance for Atleti U19 and multiple call-ups to the first team during the 22/23 season, he arrived as a starter for the 23/24 season. This past season also took place his UEFA Champions League debut, where he managed to score a goal against Lazio in a 1-1 draw in Rome. That same match, he suffered an injury which kept him out of action for a good part of the season.
In fact, injuries have largely interrupted his progression and development in the first team. However, during the time he has been available, the player has managed to make a place for himself in the midfield of Simeone's team in more than 31 games, playing a total of 1.817 minutes among La Liga and Champions League competitions.
If we talk about the player's characteristics, we would first of all highlight his technical qualities. Barrios is a player who has great ball control, great short and long associative ability, and an efficient and powerful carrying with ball ability.
Among his tactical qualities, he is a very committed, responsible and tactically intelligent player. However, he also has some areas for improvement, especially with the ball, such as risk management and decision making going out with the ball from the back.
Physically, he is a midfielder with a very strong lower body, which allows him to protect the ball very well, be a duel winner and tremendously effective in making the team progress forward driving the ball.
Mentally, lastly, we find the area where the player must become more balanced. He is a midfielder with a lot of personality, but he must acquire greater determination and regularity in his actions to make the definitive leap.
