Miguel Gutiérrez Ortega (Madrid, Spain, 27 July 2001), another of the Real Madrid CF academy's great talents, is already a reality in La Liga and also in the Champions League.
After coming through the youth ranks at Getafe CF before joining Real Madrid CF in 2011, he developed as a player at the white club until making his first-team debut under Zinedine Zidane in 2019. He was then the first player born in 2001 from the club's youth academy to join the first team.
After a season 21/22 fully in the dynamics of the first team, he saw his progression cut due to the existence of a high competition in his position with players like Ferland Mendy or the already veteran Marcelo. Miguel was transferred to Girona FC following the formula applied years ago by Real Madrid with Dani Carvajal, selling only a fixed percentage of the rights of the player and including a buy-back clause.
In his third season at the catalan club, the spanish full-back is a key element of Míchel's team. As a footballer, Gutierrez is a technically gifted player. He has great ball handling and excellent ball striking. He is very good at bringing the ball out from the back, in game building and also in second line arrivals. A real playmaker from the left flank.
Tactically, for that reason, he is a very powerful asset when the team has the ball, being a constant solution to unblock associative game. He is intelligent, disciplined and has a great command of situations under pressure.
Physically, however, he has the most room for improvement. He is a light and slim player, which enhances his attacking qualities. However, being a left back, he needs to improve his speed, strength and power to be more effective in 1vs1 situations, box-to-box defending and defensive transitions to be a more complete player.
Mentally, lastly, we are talking about a leader. Personality, determination and responsibility define his game. I have no doubt that this season we will continue seeing Miguel carry Girona FC on his back in many games to bring them closer to their objectives.
