Martim Moreira Moutinho Fernandes (Valongo, Porto, Portugal, 18 January 2006) is taking giant steps in his aim to establish himself as one of the key pieces in FC Porto's defence.
As a product of the Valonguense youth academy, the portuguese right-back signed his first professional contract with Porto in January 2022, initially destined for the reserve team. That same season he made his professional debut with FC Porto B in the portuguese Second Division against SC Covilhã, being at 16 years and six months the youngest debutant in the history of the division. In october 2023 he made his debut with Porto's main team, becoming important in Sérgio Conceição's plans for the rest of the season.
Martim is also a youth international with Portugal. He was part of the Portugal Under-17 squad for the UEFA European Under-17 Championship 2019, and in june 2023 he was called up to the Portugal Under-19 squad for the UEFA European Under-19 Championship, where they finished runners-up.
Regarding his footballing qualities, Fernandes can be considered a very complete full-back. Technically he is a remarkable player. He has a very good passing range, a powerful and refined carrying with the ball and is very accurate and determined in the final metres through crossing or shooting.
Tactically, moreover, he is a disciplined player, has a great understanding of the game and his positioning is already at an elite level. He knows when to attack the space and be deep, when to keep his position, and he has a great reading of the game.
Physically, we are talking about a modern full-back, with a great associative ability, but at the same time with a very dominant physique, sometimes giving the impression of being a pure centre-back performing as a full-back on the flank. This physical exuberance makes him a player with a great zone coverage and a great offensive and defensive impact.
On the mental side, finally, we find a player with an overwhelming personality. A precocious talent who has already shown he is ready for the elite and whose maturity foresee a really promising future for portuguese football.
