Joan García Pons has become one of the key players in RCD Espanyol's quest to stay in LaLiga EASPORTS.
Born in Sallent de Llobregat, Barcelona, on 4 May 2001, and trained in the youth academy of the club to which he currently belongs, RCD Espanyol, he has many of the attributes of a typical goalkeeper in modern football.
After several years in the youth academy of the club, he made his debut as a first team RCD Espanyol player on 1 December 2021 in a Copa del Rey match. Since then, and following his consolidation as a starter during the club's season in the Second Division, this season he has emerged as one of the most exciting goalkeepers in the Spanish First Division.
At international level, it should also be noted that Joan has been a regular in the call-ups for the spanish U21 national team, and of course, he was the starting goalkeeper for the team that won the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In terms of his technical characteristics, we are talking about a goalkeeper who is very brave and powerful in the air, in the blocks, and quite good with his footwork.
His physical characteristics are even more interesting. In addition to his high size (191 cm), he has great agility, jumping power and reaction speed, which makes him one of the most reliable goalkeepers under the goal.
This season, despite having conceded 12 goals (1.5 goals per game), he is one of the goalkeepers who has made the most saves, bearing in mind that the catalan club is one of the teams that concedes most chances and that its main objective is to fight to stay in the category.
