Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, born in Huddersfield, England, on 4 November 2005, has surprised everyone on his professional Premier League debut for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

The British centre-back was on trial at a number of Premier League clubs before joining Manchester City FC at the age of 8. He signed a professional contract with the Citizens in July 2023 and captained Manchester City U-18s to the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League titles in 2024. That same summer he was selected to travel with the first team on their pre-season tour, and his good impressions on the pitch made him remain in the dynamic senior squad throughout the current season.

Simpson has already shown his great potential in several matches in the English top flight. Although he currently alternates appearances with both the first team and the U-21s, he seems to be a highly qualified central defender for both the Premier League and Pep's complex system and game model.

Technically, the young English centre-back stands out for his ball control overall going out with the ball from the back, his very good passing ability, both short and long, and his great clarity in possession.

Tactically, although he has room for improvement, he is also an interesting player. He has a great reading of the game, he is very good at finding vertical passes that overcome lines of pressure, and he is a great asset in setting a high defensive block.

Obviously, all of this is possible due to his physical presence. His height and strength allow him to impose himself in all kind of duels with advantage.

Finally, it will be his mental development that will determine his future potential. He still has a certain tendency to be disconnected from the game, as well as a wide margin for improvement in his error handling, aspects that he can undoubtedly improve with specific work and playing time.
