The young midfielder, born in Vigo on 19 December 2003, was fully trained in the youth ranks of Celta Vigo. Already in the youth category, he was called up by the first team on several occasions, even making his debut in a victory against FC Barcelona in 2021, without even having made his debut with the 1st RFEF reserve team.
Hugo's great leap forward is based on an exciting mix of technical quality and personality. Sotelo is characterised by being a technically exquisite player. He possesses great quality and precision in his delivery, a wide range of passing and excellent ball handling.
Tactically, he is an ideal profile for an attacking, proactive and controlling game plan. On the ball, he has very good oriented ball control, a great ability to turn and great vision. Without the ball, however, we find one of the aspects with the greatest room for improvement, especially in the defensive aspect.
Physically, moreover, his basic conditions are also interesting. He has a very strong and powerful lower body, which allows him to protect the ball. At the same time, on the other hand, he needs to improve his work rate and his stealing ability, especially in a system with only two players like the one Celta use in midfield.
