On April 25, 2003, in Premià de Dalt, a small village near Barcelona, Arnau Martínez was born. Right-back and Girona FC footballer, Arnau left from the famous La Masia academy of FC Barcelona in his youth, until he moved to Hospitalet U19 and arrived in 2018 in Girona. At 18, he has already signed his first professional contract with Girona and hopes to celebrate promotion to the First Division at the end of the season.
The 18-year-old Martínez is a right-back, very good at attacking but also attentive defensively, in fact, the young Spaniard also manages to fill the role of central defender. As a right-back which is his natural role, Martínez is managing in 2 seasons with the main team of Girona to show his best qualities in assisting. The young right-back joined the main team in October of the 2020/21 season, and from that point, he began to take more and more space in the team. In his first experience with the main team, Martínez in 12 appearances in Liga2 brought 2 assists and also scored his first goal, becoming the youngest scorer in the history of Girona FC.
In the current season, the young Spanish right-back is playing with excellent regularity which has led him to have 2 games in the Copa del Rey this season, and 26 games in Liga2 where thanks to his continuity he has led to the team 5 assists - the second-best of the team after Álex Baena with 6 assists - and 1 goal.
Arnau Martínez is a very dynamic player, he is right-back but manages to play in all the roles of the right lane, thanks to his excellent running and insertions in the opposing area. Tactically intelligent footballer, good at going into tackles even if he does not have an imposing physical structure, with his 182cm height and the great desire to give everything on the pitch, making him a right-back difficult to overcome but also to mark.
Overall, the 18-year-old Arnau Martínez is a footballer to follow, a modern right-back who certainly with this continuity of play will be able to show many other qualities but above all to bring many other assists and goals. After 4 years between Girona U19 and the first team, Martínez has already caught the attention of many La Liga clubs, especially the team where it all began, Barcelona FC. It will be intriguing to see first if he will be able to help Girona to move up to the La Liga and then to see him play another year with continuity in the Spanish top division.
