Archie James Francis Gray (Durham, England, 12 March 2006) is another of the great talents recruited through Spurs' scouting policy in recent years.
Born in Durham, he joined Leeds United at U9 level. He progressed so quickly that even while still of school age, Gray began training with Leeds' first team during the time the team was directed by Marcelo Bielsa.
In September 2022 and, aged just 16, he signed a two-year scholarship deal with Leeds United, becoming the club's biggest player project. Gray soon confirmed the club's expectations, and in the 23/24 season he already played a total of 49 Championship, FA Cup and EFL Cup matches, proving himself to be one of the most important players in the division at his young age.
At international level he has represented England at U16 and U17 level, although he is still eligible to represent Scotland, his parents' country of origin. However, so far, his most recent international call-up was last year, when he represented England at the UEFA European U17 Championship 2023.
Regarding his football qualities, it should be noted that we are talking about a player who is still at a youth age. However, in all areas he shows that he is ahead of that question.
Physically, he is a player with an amazing work rate. His great stride and acceleration mean that his evolution will lead him to play in a box-to-box role, playing more freely and with a greater presence in the opposition half.
Technically, despite not being his most outstanding quality, we are talking about a fairly good player. He stands out especially for his handling with both legs, his first touches and his shot from outside the box.
Tactically, on the other hand, his understanding of the game, positioning and decision making is surprisingly accurate. At the same time, these characteristics allow him to play in different positions in the system. Central and holding midfielder, winger, right-back and even centre-back are some of the positions in which Postecoglu has used him.
Finally, on the mental level, we find one of the least uncertain aspects due to his youth. However, he has already shown to be a player with character, leadership and ambition to become the player that his potential promises.
