Alejandro Iturbe is a product of Atletico Madrid academy – youth system that produced many exciting talents in recent years such as Saúl Ñíguez, Koke, David de Gea, Rodri, Thomas Partey, Theo Hernández, Lucas Hernández and Óliver Torres. Iturbe is considered to be the most talented goalkeeper in his age category in Spain. He’s already on the radar of Europe’s biggest clubs including FC Barcelona.
As is the norm with modern day goalkeepers, Iturbe is very good with the ball at his feet. He can start attacks with his long distribution and also start attacks from the back. He can play a long ball as well as play it short. Some of the times he isn’t afraid to break lines with his passing as well. A good asset to have for any team looking to maintain and retain possession. He is not afraid to close down strikers and also plays the role of the sweeper keeper well making him an excellent 1v1 saver.
Iturbe is a solid communicator and commands his defence efficiently. When making a save, his first instinct is to try and collect the ball. This makes his defence feel confident in his ability as well. His reflexes are fantastic which makes him pull of saves other goalkeepers generally cannot, especially with close ranged efforts.
These abilities make him comparable to Ter Stegen and it is no surprise that FC Barcelona are interested in signing the young Spaniard. All in all, he has the perfect pedigree to play as the number 1 goalkeeper for a top European club and also for Spain once David de Gea decides to call it time. Who knows, maybe he may even displace de Gea as Spain’s numero uno.
